Relationships between these two signs are competitive and adventurous and work really well together. And so Watanuki told Yuko everything about what happened at lunch while "I think I'll just give it a little taste test.

A meal made from the heart is a treasure anyone would welcome. You're going to snack! Don't yank so hard! You could've just pointed! Back in the room, Oba-san was looking at the sand drawing. It had a paper attached to it with a poem on it, the small butterfly signature resting in the corner.

The old lady could hear Watanuki working in the kitchen and smiled. I look forward to the end result. But don't worry, they'll be gone by the time you leave. The shop owner smiled back. That means that we can't leave until they stop! Which means food and more sake! The four of them ate and drank together, happily sharing each other's company with only a few outbursts when Mokona snagged food off of Watanuki's plate much like Doumeki did and the seer yelled at the pork bun.

They left the fortune-teller's house late in the evening, the rain stopping just before they left. Watanuki avoided moonlit filled puddles as she walked down the street with Yuko and the witch deliberately stepped into puddles. That would've been awesome! But she's a fortune-teller!

Her hands came up to make finger glasses over her real glasses dramatically. It's a fragile give-and-take sort of bond between a seer and that which would be seen. Not every question has one true answer. That is true and must be accepted for all matter of life.

At the very least, they'd make the rest of us look bad. It can still alter a person's path, so it's more than rude. Two butterflies fluttered past her as she ran by. I expect dinner when I get back! She was sitting with Wari which was never a bad thing in the front row of the bleachers in the archery range. They were watching Doumeki compete and as much fun as it seemed at first to just hang out with Wari, Watanuki really didn't want to be hanging out with Wari while watching Doumeki impress everybody.

Doumeki was standing at the far end of the range, dressed in the archery club's uniform of back hamaka and a white kimono top and white tabi on his feet. His bow was already stretched with his first arrow, left hand gripping the belly of the bow and his right, bandaged arm pulling back the bowstring with the arrow already notched in and holding his second arrow for the next use. Watanuki could hear the tension and strain on the bowstring from all the way in the stands, but Doumeki's hold puls the added grip from his glove didn't give the string a change to eject the arrow until he was ready to release.

The archer aimed carefully, his deep eyes narrowing at the target and he released his arrow. It whizzed past, the whole crowd following the movement with their heads as it thunked into the first thick ring of black, missing the bullseye by a small margin. He just stood there, the bow tucked up onto his hip, his other hand resting on the opposite side with the arrow clutched in his hand, face more serious than usual.

He's like the paragon of masculinity right now, all proud and standing tall, imposing. What a show off! Watanuki grumbled to herself as Doumeki concentrated on his next shot.

Watanuki looked at the wrap of bandages around Doumeki's right elbow and felt a slight guilt at have being the cause of the injury. Not that Doumeki blamed her for it, but she still felt bad. Even if it was the spirits who'd pushed her off her roof. Doumeki could've just let her fall and die instead of catching her for which the seer was, begrudgingly, grateful for. Personally, I think it was just luck.

Apparently, it didn't work. I mean, of course I support Doumeki," Watanuki held her hands up in her defense. Watanuki clutched at the fabric of her skirt in frustration.

I guess I owe him because it's my fault he hurt his arm and all but I didn't want to come alone — because the I would look like I was here for my boyfriend and Doumeki is definitely not my boyfriend!

Though I really and starting to wish that I hadn't asked him to come. Doumeki's archery skills are impressing him a little too much. Watanuki was still under the impression that Wari like Doumeki in that way.

Doumeki was finally ready to shoot and notched his last arrow, pulling the bow up and then out, the string protesting as it was yanked back. His eyes narrowed in concentration, the only movement on his face that changed from its normal stone wall.

Doumeki let go, the arrow flying right into the bullseye as the crowd erupted into cheers. Wari was yelling pretty loudly for his friend and Watanuki pretended like she was yelling but was really just stewing that Doumeki had mostly likely, probably won. It even said, "20th Mayoral Archery Competition Championship, 1st Place" on it or something like that. It's probably going to end up in his room next to all his other, perfect trophies of his accomplishments, Watanuki complained in her head.

Doumeki reached into his bag and pulled out a broken fletching. Its feathers were striped black and white and Doumeki decided to put it in Watanuki's bag. Wari laughed at their antics.

It's almost like you're a couple! She glared at Doumeki, who somehow made wearing an arrow on his head look cool. The pink and white stripes are cute. But there was a twinkle in his eye. Watanuki flipped out, yanking down her skirt. While she wasn't looking, Doumeki slipped the fletching back into the girl's bag, genuinely wanting her to have it. It got dark really fast, darkening the girl's mood just as much as she walked alone. I could do pasta, but we just had that last night and Yuko's probably going to want something fancy and complicated.

What am I going to do? She sniffed for a long time, trying to savor the smell in all its glory, her mouth curving up into a cat's mouth. Whatever it is, it smells fantastic! She looked like a dork.

The girl didn't even notice when the street faded away, replaced by an in-between world made up of purple-pink smoke and a brightly lit yatai just sitting in the middle of it all. The food cart had a cheerful red lantern hanging in the front and a bench with purple curtains for customers to sit behind.

Watanuki sighed as her nose was assaulted with the delicious smell of food again. And if it's good enough, it can be tonight's dinner! Now that's an idea! There was an anthropomorphic fox looking up at her, dressed in a blue striped kimono and apron with little sandals and it was carrying dishes.

Its fur was golden colored and its ears took up at least half of its head area and the girl and fox just stared at each other for a moment, the snapping and boiling food in the cart filling the silence. Then all hell broke loose. The fox tripped, throwing its dishes in the air and gasped as they began to fall. Watanuki leapt into action, her pride as a cook on the line where dishes were concerned and skid on the ground to catch the first dish in her outstretched hand, the caught the other too with her feet that were in the air.

Maybe I should join the circus, that would be a good profession or someone with a weird talent like this. Watanuki smiled triumphantly and then notice the little fox again, this time hiding behind the cart and looking at her. What do we have here? Is it a human customer? She did however, clutch the dishes to her chest for dear life and nearly screamed again.

And this one's bigger and talks! Now please, so come in. She kept looking at the chief fox, mulling over the fact it could talk and wore clothes and cooked as it prepared her a meal. You're not wearing a mask or anything like that, right?

What you see is what you get. I am a genuine fox. The fox poked at the food to move it around and then straightened its blue scarf. You must possess a considerable power for a girl your age. If there wasn't something special about you, you wouldn't be able to even see our shop. Hope you like it!

Paradise exploded on her tongue and she moaned in satisfaction. That's really good to hear! You really need to give me your recipe! It's a fox-made dish. It isn't the same prepared by humans no matter how do the chef. It shook its head shyly. The little fox sprang back in embarrassment, his tail poofing up as he gasped. When did he put this in here!? She looked down and saw the little fox's tail wagging as it looked at the fletching in her hand. For example, if her kimono has a rose pattern with lace, she will wear a rose in her hair and a lace choker and bracelet.

Also, when she has the time, Yuko will style her hair is a neat yet creative fashion and will always decorate her hair with some sort of accesory such as coloured pins or chopsticks. Like her clothes, Yuko has never been seen with the same hair style other than letting her hair loose. On some occasions, the length of her hair is shorter than it looks.

An example can be observed during the episode where the Twins are introduced, her hair is tied up in a small bun almost impossible to hold all her hair. Meaning of the Name Yuuko's name has various meanings to it. Firstly, 'Ichihara' is divided into two meanings.

Her "Ichi" generally has no relation to her as it means, one. It could however mean that she is the main character of the story or she was the first to be introduced. Next, "hara" means wilderness, field, moor, or the plains. This could possibly mean that she is very knowledgeable and that her level of knowledge is vast just like the wilderness. Moving on to her second name, Yuko. Yuko is a common girls name with many different meanings based on the kanji making it up, but in her case, the kanji that makes up the "yuu" portion of her name means "leading", which is fitting given her role in leading people to what they desire, and especially in being a mentor to Watanuki.

The "ko" in her name means child, and is merely a common ending to girls names. Personality The eccentricity of this character confuses readers because her guidance of Watanuki grants him a state of spiritual and paranormal awareness of great importance. Therefore some of her resolutions are meaningless at first, but eventually the plot reveals the origin of her wise decision.

Many times she seeks to act as a spectator, but in most cases, her intervention yields results that govern the speed and dynamics of the plot. Her histrionics confuses Watanuki, but end up involving him in serious situations, in which Watanuki, is driven by it as part of it. She's fun and respectful of all beings, being these kind or not. According to the manga, good and bad are concepts that humans decide, and these do not apply to non-human. This kind of thinking occurs when, for example, she decides not to intervene to prevent someone from their mistakes or endangerment, [1].

Though she acts sarcastic, bossy and annoying towards Watanuki, it's quite evident that she cares for him, as it was seen when she died; "my wish Sometimes she uses her lecherous side to disturb Watanuki to her great amusement. She also loves alcohol, which traduces in sending Watanuki to the drugstore every time she's got a hangover. Towards close friends, Yuko shows a very different side of herself than when she is with a customer. With close friends like Oba-chan or Watanuki, she is kinder and more open to them.

She shares more opinions and thoughts with them. Though she is close with her friends, she still keeps serious feelings to herself, not wanting to burden others with her serious problems. We, as readers see these unmentioned or hidden thoughts through monologues by Yuko when she is alone.

Many of these hidden worries are not revealed to other characters such as Watanuki even after she dies as she never reveals it to them. Also, even though Yuko is sometimes open about her feelings towards others telling Watanuki that she is happy that he is at the shopreaders can see that most of the time, her feelings go unsaid.

The reason to why Yuko hides her feelings from others is unknown but it is thought to be because she doesn't want to get hurt or too attached, mostly because she knows that one day she will vanish. As the plot advances, we can see that she sometimes acts immature to keep Watanuki from realizing the gravity of the situation around him.

She is a dealer in wishes as she will grant the sincere wish of anyone who is willing to make an appropriate sacrifice in return; the price is always equivalent to the weight of the wish, no more, no less. In the case of Watanuki Kimihirowho sought to be rid of the evil spirits that plague him, the price was a long period of frequently demeaning servitude.

As a result, she now has Watanuki as a sort of "personal assistant" to clean, cook, and perform other tasks she considers beneath her.

She keeps Watanuki close and searches for him whenever he's in trouble in order to protect him. This is a connection she shares with Doumeki who's always by his side in the hardest moments due to his ability for exorcism. When it comes to the gastronomical requests, she always challenges Watanuki to prepare the most varied dishes, which the boy makes without much problems unless some complaints, since he is very good in the kitchen.

The travelers SyaoranFay D. Flourite and Kuroganethe protagonists of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicleare sent to her from their respective home worlds in order to gain this ability.

However, to gain the ability to traverse dimensions and the related abilities embodied in a being known as Mokona Modokithey are required to pay a price that equates the power required to grant the wish. At the shop, two child-like beings created with Yuko's magic, known as Maru and Moro, also reside there.

Their full names, Marudashi and Morodashi, translated roughly mean streaking and flashing; a play on the "xxx" in the title. The two have the function of grounding the shop to its unique location between dimensions. Watanuki does not reveal who asked this of him but that he must appear as a dog to Saya until the wish is granted.

The full specifications of the wish are not clear at this point either. The dog appears to be a proxy that Watanuki uses to speak through, and had appeared on the island in order to give Saya advice. He retains his two differently-colored eye appearance, and serious, but mellow composure.

Saya receives a new katana from him, having destroyed her previous one, and Watanuki tells her that she can make the payment after she returns, implying that he wants her to return safely. Talents and Abilities Watanuki's cooking skill is exceptional At the beginning of the series, Watanuki has the power to see spirits and other things that are invisible for everyone else.

He can also feel other people's emotions when they are talking. If they have a negative feeling, Watanuki starts to feel dizzy. If they have a positive feeling, Watanuki feels a calm and cheerful aura. In xxxHolic Shunmuki Ova, Watanuki follows a path made by Haruka to find five objects that allow him to break the barrier between his world and the Dream World, allowing him to enter when he wants.

He can create or break barriers, make a road to find something or someone and travel or send people to other dimensions. He also mentions that he's more powerful inside Dream World.

Watanuki's Magic Circle Later, in the last chapter of the manga, Yuko told him through his dream that his powers had grew up enough and he doesn't need to stay in the shop. Watanuki has an exceptional cooking skill, although he thinks of it as a hobby. Yuuko will never get bored waiting for Watanuki's food everyday, though. Relationships Why should a choice, in which I had no say, decide Decide anything about a person who is so important to me?!

Watanuki has a mentor-student relationship with Yuko, one that evolves in strength and importance over time. At the beginning of the manga, Watanuki only respected Yuko because she was older and wiser than Watanuki but he didn't genuinely care for her and often thought of her as treacherous and selfish.

As the story progressed, Watanuki started caring for Yuko's well being and helped her with customers. At this time Watanuki also became more tolerant of Yuko and did not yell at her as much.

By the end of xxxHolic, Yuko and Watanuki shared a deep and understanding bond as friends and Yuko even acted as Watanuki's caretaker. At this point, Watanuki confided with Yuko many of his problems and even talked to Yuko about serious and more complicated topics that could not have been discussed before due to Watanuki's immaturity.

Yuko and Watanuki also show signs of holding a sort of love for each other though the true nature of it is somewhat ambiguous and could vary in degrees between the two. For example, when Watanuki and Yuko found each other in their dreams and Watanuki told her that he would grant any one of her wish no matter what it was as long as it made her happy. They find each other in their dreams several other times, usually being in the shop's yard.

In one of these dreams, Yuko asks Watanuki if he's happy with being and working at the shop and Watanuki says that he is, to which Yuko says that if the shop is "reason enough" for Watanuki to stay, she's happy and Watanuki takes and holds Yuko's hand that was touching his face.

Watanuki's caring feelings for Yuko appear once again when she's dying and Watanuki tells her that he will stay in the shop waiting for her and if wishes can come true just by wishing them and wanting them enough, he wishes to meet her again no matter how long it takes her to come back. Four years after Yuko's death, Watanuki meets Haruka Domeki in one of his dreams and as they are talking, Haruka points out that Watanuki is wearing his glasses even though he does not need them.

Watanuki then tells him that he forgets to take them off sometimes and then he starts to tell Haruka that before Yuko died, when all Yuko's past customers said that they didn't remember Yuko, that it was the most frightening thing that he had ever experienced. He explained that he was also scared that he too might forget Yuko, which is why he had decided to carry on her things wearing her clothes, carrying her pipe, taking ownership of her shop etc.

And even if I do forgetI'll come close to remembering. Watanuki later admits that his wish to see Yuko has also turned into a form of desire. In the last chapterYuko meets Watanuki in a dream and tells Watanuki that he has waited in the shop long enough for her and that he could now leave the shop and be free. When Watanuki awakes, he explains his dream to Shizuka's great-grandson.

When Doumeki asks Watanuki if he is happy that he saw Yuko again, even in a dream, he says yes. He then proceeds to tell Doumeki that even though he is free and has the choice to come and go as he pleases, he will stay in the shop and wait for Yuko. This shows the desire that Watanuki really feels for Yuko because even though he saw a dream version of her, but not the real one, he will keep waiting for her just for the hope that one day a miracle will happen and he will be able to see her just once again.

Here, the series ends, leaving it that Watanuki will wait for Yuko for as long as it takes. It is also revealed that Watanuki is a descendant of Clow's. Clow also gave him his appearance, purposely. Chibi Kitsune Watanuki and Chibi Kitsune are good friends. Watanuki met him for the first time at his and his father's oden stand that cannot usually be seen by humans.

The two form a friendly bond but do not see each other often since they live in two different worlds. Once, When Watanuki went to the Monster Processionall the monsters realized that Watanuki and Doumeki were humans and chased them, trying to kill them when Chibi Kitsune interfered and told them all what a good person Watanuki is until the monsters spared him.

Later on, to express his thanks, Watanuki send Chibi Kitsune a dream in a balloon from the dream collector which he had traded the broken arrow from one of his dreams for five of the dream collector's dreams. Kitsune He's Chibi Kitsune's father and he's very kind to Watanuki. He first met Watanuki at night in his oden stand. Watanuki always compliments Kitsune on his cooking, especially his famous oden a type of stew. Kitsune is especially kind to Watanuki because Watanuki and Chibi Kitsune are friends and Watanuki is very generous, giving him a dream balloon and a sacred arrow, to Chibi.

Himawari and Watanuki are best friends at school, often eating lunch together and walking home together after school, but there always seems to be something more than friendship between them. Since Himawari was first introduced, Watanuki already had a deep crush on her.

He often says that he loves Himawari he only says this in his head or to Yuko Ichihara or Watanuki and Himawari on xxxHolic anime Season 4 cover Shizuka Domeki but in reality, this is just a mere infatuation. Whenever Watanuki is asked why he likes Himawari, he answers that it is because she is kind and cute and even though these are good traits in a person, it is not nearly enough reason to be in love with someone and so all of his friends know that this is not real love but just a crush.

Watanuki also reveals in Vol. Later on in the series, Watanuki falls out of the second story window of the school and nearly dies until Shizuka brings him to Yuko's shop where she heals him. This is when Himawari displays care for Watanuki by paying half of the price to Yuko for healing Watanuki which was taking all the scars that Watanuki beared from the fall. When Watanuki finally wakes up, Himawari talks to him and reveals to him that she is bad luck - literally.

Himawari had been born with a bad luck curse at birth which meant that she brought bad luck to those whom she meets, talks to, or touches with the exception of her parents. Himawari then tells Watanuki that they should not be friends or speak to each other any more because she does not want to hurt him.

Watanuki then stops her and tells her that even though she is bad luck, he always felt lucky to have met her and that no matter what she said, he would still try to be with her.

He then reveals that he likes her and promises her that he'll never do anything to hurt her or to make her cry. Later on, Watanuki asks Yuko if there is a way to remove Himawari's curse and Yuko says that she can but the price it will be all her happiness.

She asks Watanuki if he is going to pay the price but Watanuki says that if he hurt himself for Himawari's sake then she will be sad and it will hurt her more than him.

Watanuki decides that the only thing he will do for Himawari is continue being her best friend and making her truly smile every time.

Yuko does agree to help Watanuki with his relationship with Himawari by giving him an egg and telling him to sleep with the egg beside him and whatever he wants to emerge out of the egg, it will appear. In dreams, Watanuki wishes that something will be born that will keep Himawari company so that she will not be alone and so Tanpopo is born, a bird that is immune to Himawari's bad luck. Himawari remains the same but it can be seen that she starts developing feelings for Watanuki after his personality changes a bit.

They spend more time together since Watanuki is being carefully after being with her. The last time Himawari appears is after giving some cookies to Watanuki made by herself. In xxxHolic RO, Watanuki and Himawari grow apart and their relationship ends in a "more than friends, but less than lovers" relationship. Because her misfortune affliction and the shop cause problems to occur, she promised to never enter the shop except on Watanuki's birthday.

Even if they only can see each other once a year, Himawari falls in love with Watanuki, however in Chapterit is stated that Himawari is married with a unknown businessman who knows about Watanuki and accept their friendship. Watanuki sends Himawari and her husband a chrysanthemum wine to give them fortune and good health. Shizuka Domeki Watanuki and Shizuka's meeting happened before the manga started. They had first seen each other on the school stairway and Watanuki, annoyed with just Shizuka's face, started yelling at him.

The first time we see the two together in the manga is after gym class when the two had been playing soccer. Himawari was telling Watanuki what a good soccer player he is and that he almost scored a goal. Watanuki said that he didn't score any because he felt bad for the goalie. Shizuka, whom was the goalie, then appeared and started arguing with Watanuki calmly though Watanuki at this point was scolding him furiously.

Through Yuuko's bidding, Watanuki asked Shizuka to use his temple so that they could tell ghost stories an Shizuka agreed. After the event, Yuuko concluded that Shizuka could purify spirits while Watanuki attracted them, and so while Watanuki and Shizuka are near each other, Watanuki will not be bothered by spirits. From then on, Yuuko sends Watanuki and Shizuka on missions together in order to grant various customers' wishes.

Kimihiro Watanuki

Much to the annoyance of Watanuki, Shizuka is always asking for food and eats so much that Watanuki complains. The two are always fighting in a typical manner: Shizuka speaking and rationalizing calmly while Watanuki always compared to an angry cat is scolding and yelling. They don't get along at all though they will always stay together even when angry and help each other when the situation calls for it.

They share a deep bond that cannot be broken by either words nor actions. In xxxHolic Ro, Watanuki and Shizuka are still good friends and Shizuka often helps Watanuki with things like shopping that Watanuki cannot do himself due to being restrained to the shop. When Watanuki gets wounded when dealing with clients, Shizuka comments that it is times like these [he] wishes he studied medicine," but notes that if he did so, it would be too difficult to remain by Watanuki's side along with the fact that the wounds Watanuki gains by supernatural means may not be effected by modern medicine techniques.

By the time of his marriage to Kohane Tsuyuri, Shizuka experienced a series of nightmares that expressed his doubts in regards to his upcoming wedding and in relation to his relationship with Watanuki. This, coupled with the fact that the two married for the sake of bearing children who would eventually take over their roles of guardians and assistants of Watanuki, hints at the possibility of him having strong, probably romantic feelings for Watanuki.

Kohane Tsuyuri herself has looked towards Watanuki as a parental figure, due to the care he showed her when she lacked a proper family and was going through tumultuous times with her mother. As such, she would likely agree to a "professional" wedding in order to bear children which can protect Watanuki, who, to her, represents strong familial values.
